I think, as the author says It's important to simulate actual situations during our classes, in addition to this, I believe one way to be authentic is to act as natural as we can, using most of the time creativity, trying to have our students motivated..... what do you think?

I would like to add two more elements, an authentic activity must be challenging in order to present and

Personally I believe that, authentic activities should take to both, learners and teachers in a carefully simulated environment, in order to avoid any contact with real world, due to the fact that, it will allow learners self-confidence, and avoid interruptions, as well.
ReplyDeleteMoreover, teachers should develop potentially useful or amusing role-plays, as well as reflective activities.
Hi Edith! as you say try to encourage them, because they probably think that the use of English is only for answering books and pass an exam, but if we show them beyond that a simple subject adding a plus in our classes. A teacher told me once that the course book is like taquitos dorados, if you give me the taquitos without lettuce, cream and chesse I probably will be thinking what about the ingredients, even if I enjoy eating taquitos I probably don't like to eat them. That is the point... The course book is just a guide, we need to have creativity and imagination in order to make them be hooked to the class.

ReplyDeleteI do agree with the comments posted. Authentic Activities must go far beyond our and their expectations. It must give you the zest of learning more... Authenic activities should also be critical and compatibe

ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you when you mention that an authentic activity must be challenging in order to present and affirm learning.
Because in that process is not just give knowledge but achieve that students acquire and apply those knowledge in their daily life and not just for grade.
